Furniture reclamation

January 12, 2015

Thanks to Tom and Kim down the road for this dresser…made my own chalk paint, and re purposed it as a bedding storage unit for the Blue Room, which will have a queen bed plus a sofa bed. I love the drawer pulls-what do you think?

And here is my pride and joy…Years ago I must have seen one of these somewhere and have coveted them ever since…

Hoosier Cabinets were made in the first half of the twentieth century as baking stations. What I always loved about them was the clever tin-lined flour bins that were built in. So convenient! Alas, this model had a tin-lined bread drawer (a feature on some), and not a flour drawer. For it’s flour dispensing, there had been a sifter in the upper left cupboard. Sadly, someone had removed it and covered the access. I thought and thought, and remembered the clever sliding garbage bins from Ikea I’d had in the past. And hey presto (ok, more like some serious sweating and swearing lying on my back with a screwdriver)…

Good, huh?! As soon as it was cleaned up, repainted and installed I started cookie production-works like a charm, and it looks great in the kitchen!
